Did you know Joseph 'Joe' Clark or the pilot in the photo below ?

Ron Clark from the North East of England wonders if visitors to this web site could  help him trace the history of the aircraft (photo above).

He recently discovered an album of aircraft photos that once belonged to his late uncle whom, after serving in the RAF spent the rest of his working life at Hawker Siddeley. The pictures are of mainly Hawker and Armstrong Whitworth and a few others included.

The photograph he sent is of a Folland Gnat, and Ron's pretty sure its a T1 and think it may be XR 948/48.

Ron writes,

"If possible could you please confirm the aircrafts identity and any history with it. I have looked on the ejections page and it shows the aircraft as crashing due to engine problems in 1972.

I am also very interested in the identity of the pilot taken next to the aircraft, as my uncle had not taken many with personnel stood with them, so its possible that this pilot was a friend of his, and hopefully may still be alive.

If anyone had any connection with Hawker Siddeley I would like to hear from them, especially anyone connected with Lutterworth, the Bitteswell Airfield and the team working with Sir Frank Whittle, as my uncle had worked in his capacity as Flight Engineer and Pilot at those locations. My uncles name for reference was Joseph 'Joe' Clark, and worked at H.S. until he retired.

I would appreciate any help no matter how small, you could give me with this.

 Kindest Regards,

Ron.

Ron can be reached via this web site mbenshar@aol.com or directly at ron495@btinternet.com

Hello Ron,

I've seen your plea for info on the "Ejections" website and think the  chap shown may be Flight Lieutenant John Foster. He is shown in the
attached photo at Church Fenton in about 1982-84 (me alongside). You'll  see it better if you enlarge the poor newsprint photo. However I don't  think he ever flew Gnats although they were on the strength of the  Central Flying School at which he served. Rather earlier I was an
instructor at Valley where I probably flew all the Gnats on strength but  none had the reg XR948. Sadly I didn't keep a copy of the fleet numbers so can't comment on 48.
Hope this helps.

Searching for information on

Flg. Off. H. G. Screda

Hello,

my name is Uwe Hackstein, writing to you from Bad Kreuznach in good old Germany.

Due to some personel reasons I’m very interested in the former RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force).

Can you please tell me anything more about the fatal ejection on 13-August-1957 of Flg. Off. H. G. Screda ?

Did this happen near Zweibrucken ?

Do you have any further information about this former soldier ?

I’m begging you very much, please, are there any historic information about this incident ?

I’d highly appreciate your kindly help

With friendly regards

Uwe Hackstein

Looking for  Anthony “Tony” Melton

Mrs Sheila McCarthy (nee Owens) is seeking information on the loss of her brother Edward Owens,  who, along with Anthony “Tony” Melton ejected from a Javelin on the 5th August 1961.
The Javelin FAW9 XH791 of 60 Sqn was on a ferry flight from Waterbeach to Tengah, Singapore. It crashed into the jungle near the Ganges delta, India. Both ejected but the pilot Flt Lt. Edward Owens was killed.

If anyone can add details about Edward Owens time in the RAF or his accident, or if anyone has contact with Tony Melton can they please contact Mrs. McCarthy via her daughter Avril McCarthy either via this website or direct to a.d.mccarthy@sheffield.ac.uk

Looking for Mishap films

Joseph Kaposi

Comments:

Hi guys,
I am an ex aircraft handler from Australia, i served aboard our last carrier HMAS Melbourne late 70's. I am keen to obtain copies of 'privately filmed' carrier flying footage, PLAT footage or hard to get mishap footage to add to my private collection.
If you have footage to swap i have a large collection of mishap clips and other films that may be of interest to you.

JOE
Sydney Australia.
