Antonov AN-2 | serial 53 construction number 1G194-53 |
SApFA Boboc 202 Squadron "Aurel Vlaicu" Romanian Air Force School in Boboc [took off from] Tuzla |
Crashed very shortly after takeoff
from Tuzla on a paratroopers training flight for the Navy divers
unit. After reaching 150m altitude, it started banking to the left,
stalled and hit the ground, where it cartwheeled, caught fire and
turned upside down. 11 killed on the spot (4 Air Force, 7 Navy).
Three survivors (one severely injured) taken to a hospital in
Bucharest by Medevac choppers. The 8th Navy casualty, Lt. Liviu
Antim arrived at the hospital in a coma and passed away during the
night. The other two survivors (one Air Force, one Navy) are stable:
and Maistru Militar cls IV Marius Nazare.
Cause is undetermined yet, either
technical or human error (wrong Center of Gravity or a premature
takeoff followed by a too steep climb resulting in a stall). Stalls
are very uncommon for the An-2, which is widely regarded as a very
docile and tolerant aircraft.
