RIO Capt. Masoud Eghdaam  - his parachute deployed after birdstrike and streamed along the spine of the aircraft.
After the missile strike the pilot of the F-4  dived to low altitude in an attempt to fly it back to Iran.  Flying low over the Arvand River (shat-al-arab) the aircraft struck a flock of birds, Yassini was knocked unconscious. The RIO flew the aircraft back to the air base where Yassini regained control andl anded the plane. The aircraft was escorted by an F-14 that provided visual reports of the F-4 and assisted with instructions that allowed Capt. Masoud Eghdaam to fly back to Bushehr AFB where Yassini took over
