The date of these losses may be the 16th March 2011 - conflicting news sources are not exact with the date.
One person is said to have ejected and survived - but from which aircraft?
Fate of other pilot/crew member not yet known.
one with a surface-to-air missile, the other hit by an AA gun volley.
confusing details also indicate a third aircraft may have been lost but it is now believed that the Mirage lost was in fact a MiG.
Certainly photos being shown from AP show a downed MiG-21 - but is this the reported MiG-21UM - exact location needed.

Nigerian Air Force jet crashes near Gboko in Benue State

May 12, 2011

On 8 April, a G-222, deployed in distributing election materials suffered a burst tyre on landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja; but the two pilots and crew were unhurt. Airforce spokesman, Air Commodore Anas, said there was no substantial damage to the aircraft.

On 25 April, an Mi-35 helicopter which took off from Port Harcourt with election materials force-landed near the Igbonena landing pad, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, but no one was hurt. A NAF statement said the helicopter force-landed “after one of its engines developed a mechanical problem” and that the Chief of Air Staff had ordered an investigation.

"Aboard each aircraft were two pilots and three of them managed to bail out and safely parachute to the ground while the third pilot, Captain Ompatile Sianang sustained 2nd degree burns and later died at Bokamoso hospital."
This is now contradicted by further reports in the media. It now gives the other two crew as sustaining 22nd degree burns.
Further feedback suggests that Captain Sianang sustained injuries having experienced parachute problems following ejection. It is reported that his parachute caught on the tail of the other aircraft.

Earlier this mishap was reported to have included four ejections. The Botswanan PC-7s were fitted with conventional seats and that the crew bailed out rather than ejecting. Further details appreciated

DID THE PILOT CRASH LAND THE JET OR DID HE EJECT?

Okaz/Saudi Gazette reported the following on its web site
"TABUK – A recent jet crash has cast doubts over the participation of Saudi Falcons team in the International Bahrain Exhibition. The crash occurred Tuesday when one of the teams of Hawk 65A aircraft faced trouble with the jet after taking off from King Faisal Airbase in Tabuk.
“The pilot radioed the airport team to fill the runway with fireproof foam. The plane landed on the foam without a fire, but it was damaged. The pilot escaped death but was injured,” a source said.
A Ministry of Defense investigation found that the accident was caused by a collision with a bird, which led to engine malfunction.
“The team fears they may have to cancel their participation in the aerobatics exhibition in Bahrain which is due on Jan. 14, 2012,” the source said."

Database

I've been considering re-designing parts of the web-site so that they are driven by a Database that ensures ALL pages that contain the same information are automatically updated. At present I have to individually update each page. This often leads to errors and mis-matching of information.
If anyone can help me get to grips with the fundamentals of using MS SQL and adding it to FRONTPAGE I'd be pleased to hear from you.
Adding such a facility should also mean specific searches can be requested by visitors to the web site as well as increasing the functionality of the site.

Dates
&
Times
on this site

I get a lot of correspondence concerning exact dates and times of a losses. This is often due to the manner in how the dates and times are recorded in various sources.
Unless specific information can be found a date showing 2/4/1952 could easily be either
2nd April 1952   or  4th February 1952.
Time Zones are not always given so it is not always evident whether it is a local time, a regional or national zone or standardised GMT.
Please note that where possible I will add further "TIME" and DATE" information to each entry as appropriate
