The two aircraft were in formation, echelon right, Trail moved up to in front
and below of lead to have photograph taken by the lead aircraftt. The two aircraft collided. All four crew ejected and were picked up by ubit helicopter within two hours. Capt. S. F. Hammons, S/Sgt. P. H. Pheigh, Capt. S. L. Elder and SP4 G. Lara were the crews. [unable to match then to specific aircraft] |

"We'd
been doing fighter affilation with another 111 Sqn F-4 and and Vulcan. On
returning to Leuchars, we carried out a mutual run against each other when one
engine seized and the other followed shortly after. Ejected around 9,000 ft.
Other point of note is that we were the first 'live' RAF Sea King rescue - the
aircraft was already airborne out of Boulmer when they heard the Mayday." |
