I came across your website recently and thought you may be interested in the following:-
May 4th 1961-Hunter F6 XG238/F.
I was on duty in flight operations at RAF Nicosia when this flight was planned and the aircraft and pilot subsequently sadly lost. I seem to recall that this was a test flight
following repairs and I believe that the pilot was F/O J Cleaver who had ejected from a Hunter previously in 1960 - also in cyprus.

 The Convair B-58 Hustler was flown by company test crew left light cloud formation at 42,000ft and confronted by huge thunderhead rising to 50,000ft. Due to high speed the aircraft was unable to avoid the storm and suffered damage. The three crew ejected, between 26,000ft. and 16,000ft. at supersonic speed while bomber was rolling to the left, using ejection seats with M-3 catapult. The aircraft landed inverted at a 70 degree angle leaving a crater sixty feet wide and 30 feet deep. All crew suffered severe fatal injuries.

USAF Boeing RB-47 Stratojet reconnaissance bomber BuNo 34281 operating from RAF Brize Norton flown by Major Willard G. Palm, Co-pilot Capt. Freeman. Bruce Olmstead and Navigator /bombardier Capt. John R. McKone was shot down at 30,000ft. over the Baltic Sea on the northern Artic coast [ over the Barents Sea in the area of the Kola Peninsula] of the Soviet Union by a MiG flown by Capt. Vasily A. Polgakov. Four crew were killed. McKone and Olmstead were picked up in International water by a Soviet trawler. They were taken by the Russians and held in Moscow's Lubyanka Prison. They were released on 25-1-1961*. Other source gives release
