This was a cause for concern because there was no way to land the jet with an empty rocket bottle dangling from it like some kind of malignancy. FEEDBACK

Hi,
I was a First Lieutenant with the 324th FIS at Sidi Slimane in Morocco. I  was flying F86Ds. I was playing target that day, I lost both fuel controls  (electronic and manual back up) over the Mediterranean at 40,000 ft and just  under 100 miles back to base. and I made it to 4000' and 8 miles to the base  on 1/2 idle speed. My wing man, who was a Korean ACE asked me what I was  going to do. I looked at the distance and 45 degree turn to make the runway.  All I could see was that I was going to drag a wing tip short of the runway.  I ejected safely. It was one hell of a kick in the butt. The seat got caught  in the parachute and cut 6 or so shroud lines and tore a hole in the canopy.
My lucky day!!! It was 1958 September 4th on a clear day.The air sea rescue  chopper was there immediately. Again my thanks to the Korean ACE on my wing. they taught me a lot.

Sincerely,
Robin Lewis
