SITTING IN MID-AIR

Experiments were carried out over Mustin Air Field, Philadelphia, with a new parachute seat for pilots. The pilot is shot out of the plane still sitting in his seat and is thrown sufficiently clear of the plane before he releases his parachute and lands.

PHOTO SHOWS: A 200 pound dummy pilot just after he has been shot clear of a Douglas JD-1 flying at 1,000 feet
