Sqn. Ldr. Alauddin "Butch" Ahmed of the Pakistan Air Force was flying an F-86 Sabre in a low level raid against raid against the freight wagons in the goods yard at Gurdaspur Station. On a second pass at very low level through smoke from previous strikes his aircraft was hit hit by fragments from the exploding trucks. Twelve miles away from Pakistani territory he reported, "My cockpit is full of smoke." He continued to fly his damaged aircraft westwards and added, "It seems alright now." It was not, and Sqn. Ldr. Ahmed ejected from his burning Sabre. He did not survive. There is conjecture as to whether he was shot while descending in his parachute in the combat area.
