Captain Scott O'Grady, USAF was flying a routine patrol near the town of Banja Luka, Bosnia when his F-16C was hit by a Serbian SAM-6 missile at 20,000 feet. O'Grady had flown from the Italian Air Force Base Aviano, Italy. Six days later after successfully evading capture by hostile forces he made radio contact with US forces at 02:30h.
He was extracted from the area about four hours later by two USMC CH-53Es from the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsage at 06:45h
