PILOTS IN LAUGHLIN T-38 CRASH IDENTIFIED LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – The aircrew members flying the Laughlin T-38C that crashed earlier today near Brackettville have been identified. Maj. Marc A. Montgomery was the instructor pilot. The student pilot was 2nd Lt. Jonathan Ballard. Maj. Montgomery is assigned to the 96th Flying Training Squadron; Lt. Ballard to the 87th Flying Training Squadron. Maj. Montgomery was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for evaluation. Lt. Ballard was transported to the 47th Medical Group clinic here for evaluation. The two pilots were on a low-level student training mission when their T-38C crashed after an apparent bird strike. Both pilots ejected safely. The jet crashed in open ranchland, and there were no fatalities or injuries on the ground. A board of officers will investigate the accident.
