PILOTS IN LAUGHLIN T-38 CRASH IDENTIFIED

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – The aircrew members flying the Laughlin T-38C that crashed earlier today near Brackettville have been identified.

Maj. Marc A. Montgomery was the instructor pilot.  The student pilot was 2^nd Lt. Jonathan Ballard. Maj. Montgomery is assigned to the 96^th Flying Training Squadron; Lt. Ballard to the 87^th Flying Training Squadron.

Maj. Montgomery was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for evaluation.  Lt. Ballard was transported to the 47^th Medical Group clinic here for evaluation.

The two pilots were on a low-level student training mission when their T-38C crashed after an apparent bird strike.  Both pilots ejected safely.

The jet crashed in open ranchland, and there were no fatalities or injuries on the ground. 

            A board of officers will investigate the accident.
