Pakistan Air Force No. 5 Squadron

F-104 Starfighter

7th September, 1965

Flt. Lt. Amjad Hussain

Flt. Lt. Amjad Hussain of the Pakistan Air Force scrambled with his flying an F-104 Starfighter  at about 05:15h and was directed towards Sargodha where he came into visual contact with Indian Air Force Mysteres. He downed one with cannon fire and then began a dogfight with another. In an effort to out-turn his opponent Flt. Lt. Hussain reduced speed and the tail of his aircraft was hit by several cannon strikes that damaged the elevator control. With only a few hundred feet of altitude Hussain attempted to initiate the Lockheed C-2 ejection seat, but he had failed to actuate the seat arming mechanism. He quickly rectified the situation,  and he ejected at low level, the canopy automatically separating and then three-tenths of a second later his rocket seat left the aircraft, automatically separated the pilot of the strcken aircraft from the seat, deploying his parachute  that snatched open just before his feet hit the ground.  He made a safe landing and returned to Sargodha by horse, jeep and finally helicopter.
