On the
23rd of August, 1976 I ejected from an F-105 right off the end of the
McConnell AFB runway at 75 feet above ground.
I had an oil pump failure while I was out in one of our training areas
80 miles north of the base. I tried to make it back to the base, but
when I put the landing gear down the engine quit. I decided I wasn't
going to make it to the runway so I ejected. Everything worked just fine
and I did a normal PLF just 1/4 of a mile short of the runway.
