FEEDBACK |
Mr.Bennett,
I was stationed in Manises AB for 13 years with the Ala No. 11. I'm addressing you about the data in your web regarding the crash of the Spanish Mirage III DE on December 16, 1970. The aircraft involved can't be the CE.11-16 as long as there was no such aircraft. The Spanish Mirage III double seatters (CE.11) were numbered from CE.11-25 to CE.11-30 and the single seatters (C.11) were C.11-01 to C.11-24. The C.11-16 was a single seatter written off in late 80s after a crash landing in Manises Air Base, Valencia. The aircraft involved in the ejection was most likely the first CE.11-30. I know there was a crash of a CE in the first months of Mirage III operation out of Manises AB and a new one was bought and given the same tail number. Is interesting that both the Mirage III DE crashed had the same tail number. Regarding the information of another Mirage III accident in your web (August 7, 1979) I have to say that there was no C.11 with the Squadron number 122-06. That plane must be the 112-06, tail No. C.11-12. As a matter of fact the pair tail numbers were assigned to the 112 Sqdn. and the odd ones to the 111 Sqdn. The pilot ejected in this accident was latter Chief of Staff of the EdelA. The 122-06 was a F4-C Phantom II of Ala No. 12, Torrejon AB (Madrid).
I hope this information
should be useful to you.

Mike, before you update!!
I was wondering about the H5 seat on the F-4C. Checked US update dates (from
1967) and a Spanish colleague who confirmed the fact the F-4C were indeed fitted
with the MB Mk H7 seat since they were received, both the C and the F models. So
all the ejections were with H7 seats!
The seat fitted to the Mirage III and early Mirage F-1s was offcially known as
the Hispano Martin Baker RM4, being the standard Hispano made Mk 4 seat.
