Update |
The Kenyan Air Force aircraft that were involved in the incidents on 1st June
1975 were a single seat Hunter FGA Mk 80 which crashed onto the Nairobi golf
course during the Madaraka Day fly past, the pilot was killed. The other
aircraft was a twin seat Hunter T Mk 81, which made an emergency landing at
Eastleigh Air Base during which the canopy was jettisoned and the aircraft came
to rest off the side of the runway. The crew were Major Ndu and Major ???. The
trainer was later flown back to Nanyuki Air Base without a canopy and with the
undercarriage locked down by two RAF pilots, Flt Lts Nigel Ashley and Derek
Bridge. It was repaired and continued in service. |

| One of four F-5s that took off in heavy storm weather to escort Kenyan Airways Boeing 707 carrying Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi on the last part of the return flight from Libyan visit where he had gone to hand over the OAU chairmanship to Col Gaddafi. One aircraft had already returned to base having been unable to join up with the other three due to bad weather. The remaining three had to follow the 707 at a distance having been refused permission to formate with the aircraft. They were having to fly on instruments tracking the plane by radar as visibility fixes was no existant. One aircraft lost power and altitude in heavy cloud. Unable to regain power. Aircraft abandoned in heavy cloud over the Kinangop area. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
