Low Altitude Ejection Captain Al-Rashidi was landing at Ahmed Aljaber AFB in his McDonnell-Douglas F/A-18D. He was part of a three ship formation and he was the number 2 aircraft to land. The weather conditions were cloudy with rain with gusts of wind. As he landed a high crosswind hit the aircraft and was forced to the left.Husain attempted to regain control. The aircraft nose of the aircraft continued to veer to the left at 45 degrees and running off the runway. It was at this time that he was left with little choice but to eject. Grabbing the seat handle he set the ejection process in motion. The canopy automatically jettisoned, and Husain left the aircraft at 140 knots and zero altitude on his Martin-Baker ejection seat and landed close to the aircraft without injury. |
