Monday April 19, 1999 , towards 17. 15, two  controlled by the  and the , entered in collision, at a meeting of aerobatics in the sky of Beauvechain. The pilots managed to eject themselves in time, one two was slightly wounded. The two pilots were led to the military hospital of Neder Over Heembeek (close to Brussels) for a thorough examination. The apparatuses fell in Beauvechain, of the, and were completely destroyed (photo: DH)

Information complementary to the accident which occurred yesterday, Monday April 19 with 17.17h with Beauvechain, the Air Force makes a point of providing some additional information. The two pilots of two Alpha Jet concerned had just taken off of the base for a training flight; this flight was going to be carried out partially in tight formation. For a still unknown reason, the two planes were touched during one of these operations. The two pilots, the commander De Schrijver and the commander Meunier, have been for several years instructors on Alpha Jet; they could be run away thanks to their ejector seat and are indemnes, put besides some wounds surface. A thorough medical examination at the Military Hospital of Neder Over Heembeek did not reveal other lesions. The planes were completely destroyed but caused only light damage with the thirds. A possible pollution was not noted but would be compensated. As envisaged a board of inquiry is gone down on the spot and immediately began its work. The results of the investigation are awaited only in a few months. Having implemented 33 Alpha Jet since 1979, the Air Force did not have until yesterday considering it regrettable that two accidents on this type of plane. The apparatus is of Franco-German construction and is used as plane of advanced drive for the pupil-pilot. In Europe, the air forces Frenchwoman and Portuguese are also useful themselves of this plane.

- the Alpha-Jet accomplished a training flight in forecast of the meeting of September the 4 and 5. It was the 21e flight of the kind of the two pilots (very tested). The base of Beauvechain had the authorization of the Staff according to certain conditions. All were joined together. The pilots changed formation when they were touched. Both left indemnes thanks to the ejector seat there. Perhaps an aerodynamic phenomenon of aspiration explains the crash, advanced the head of body. But it is far from known. It is still the subject of studies at the military royal School and the French Air
