CONFIRM ??? |
Crashed near Sagree village on the
bank of Indus River near an
airbase west of the capital, Islamabad, southwestern province of Balochistan |
Base Commander Air Commodore Abdul
Hameed Qadri ejected but killed. |
 |
Martin-Baker |
|
Police sources said that before the
crash the pilot ejected himself from the plane but his parachute did not open
and he fell on the ground and died. He had delayed ejecting to ensure that he
was well away from a populated area when he left the aircraft. |

On 17th May 1986 Air Commodore Abdul
Hameed Qadri was on a routine western CAP over Parachinar near the Afghan
border. Qadri and his wingman Sqn. Ldr. Mohammed Yousaf flying PAF F-16As
intercepted four SU-22 aircraft. Quadri's missiles failed to launch yet he still
managed to shoot two SU-22s with his guns. He was awarded the Sitara-i-Basalat.
