| FEEDBACK |
"The Omani Jaguar (218) crashed near Salalah on 21st June 1984. The pilot, an Omani (we knew him as Mohammed) was killed. The aircraft came out of cloud inverted, we think that Mo was disoriented and it crashed some 800 yards from the Sultans Palace in Salalah, Dhofar - Oman. Mo was a great guy. . . . I also witnessed the crash of XX831 when I was stationed at RAF Lossiemouth. The aircraft had been suffering from control problems and had been in our Hangar (ASF) for ages after problems from when it had been delivered from Warton. It probably had less than 20 hours on it from new! I remarked to my colleague (a Corporal Pete Whale) that there was a spare seat in the back, and could have taken one of the ground crew up! Minutes later we saw it barrel-rolling along the runway, then a flash (rocket pack) as the seat went off. The aircraft crashed into a farm some two miles from the runway, taking out a barn and leaving a rather large hole. It was the PSP in the back seat had become dislodged and jammed the rear stick over, therefore the pilot could not get the stick back to neutral....the seat apron had to be re-designed!"
We had XX137 in the hangar
after it was fished out of the Moray Firth.....after 4 days, covered in
barnacles and sea anemonies! I was on 14sqn when Terry Bushnell crashed, we think it was target fixation as he went in on the range or he was trying to re-align the NAVWASS head down. We were at Wildenrath at the time as they were doing the runway at Bruggen. Sad loss. The Squadron put the kites to bed, then we went over the NAAFI and got wrecked, Pilots and all!. I knew Bill Langworthy (RIP) at Lossie and Thumrait. He was a gentleman.. 'Bangout Bill' as he was known. Ended his flying days on Hunters.

| FEEDBACK |
Having had a quick look at your website, I must say you are doing a marvellous job with such a big subject. I have spotted a couple of errors with your Jaguar entries though, eg XX735 was flown into the ground at Eggebeck by Flt Lt Shepherd of 6 Sqn NOT Carroll. I can confirm this, as I was on the detachment to RDAF Tirstrup at the time (15/9/76). In my 25 year career I served on Phantoms, Harriers, Jaguars and both GR1 and F3 Tornado types. When I have some time, I will forward any other corrections I see if you wish? Good luck with your worthy project. Regards

FEEDBACK REQUEST |
I found your site while trying to find
more information about the circumstances
surrounding my father's death. He was a
pilot in the RAF flying a Jaguar on
exercise from RAF Bruggen, West Germany,
to Sardinia. I was wondering if you had
more information about the accident or
if you can tell me where you got the
information from. Information can be forwarded to Mr West via this web site |

| FEEDBACK |
" Steve Waring and Bob Prest were on 1v1 sortie with another jaguar, both jags were 8 Squadron based at SOAF Thumrait. They flew through the jet exhaust of the other jag and put the engines out if I remember correctly. The jet crashed approx 25 miles North East of Thumrait. I was on the scene in a Desert Rescue Land Rover about 20 mins after the event."

Hi Mike
I've submitted photos of
pranged Jaguars to abpic.co.uk. Of course the aircraft
are complete but I thought you would be interested.
Fab site you have, I set off
the sequence on a seat from a Lightning 3. We had it for
demo purposes. It had been used by a Lightning F 3 from
Cyprus.I think I have the card here You should have seen
the room clear and I just burst out laughing!
Best wishes
C Mac Kay

FEEDBACK |
". . . I was in Oman (SOAF and renamed RAFO {Royal Air Force of Oman}) from 1978 to 1986 and offer following corrections/additions: 26th February 1979 the pilot was Flt Lt Rick Lea (not Let). The cause was a bomb detonation 9 feet below the wing after release during a demonstration of a ground laser target designation. Lea suffered severe burning from a LOX fire in the cockpit caused by bomb fragmentation which cut a LOX pipe in the cockpit. 1st March 1981. Control was lost in classic A over B of the 2 seat Jaguar. Waring, in the front seat and thus second to eject, attempted to eject using the QRB of the harness and consequently he was at very low altitude when he did eject: he suffered a badly broken left arm as he was attempting to get maximum thrust in reheat in effort to delay the inevitable crash. 1st June 1984. This was 8 Squadron vice 20 Squadron. "
