| FEEDBACK |
I found your pages about Ejections on Internet and as a former pilot
in the Finnish Air Force I found that there was an error in the list
of Finnish ejections. There was not to my knowledge any ejection from
a Hawk on the 6th of July 1981. On the other hand there was an
accident on the 17th of March 1981 with from . The pilot, Capt Kari
Heilimo ejected but hit the
ground after the aircraft had hit the trees and the aircraft was
rolling. The passenger, had forgot to remove the
safety pin from the ejection seat and remained in the aircraft
surviving the impact with the ground. |

| FEEDBACK |
"Reference Hawk Bedford 1/82. The aircraft had being doing a chase sortie from Bedford, hence the camera, and was on finals over the threshold when it caught the prop wash from the A&AEE Bristol Britannia that was doing circuits and bumps. The aircraft flipped over and Peter Bennet ejecting sideways as it did so. The rear seat guy, whose name I cannot remember, remained in the aircraft that landed upside down. He received facial injuries from the snapped ‘pole’ of the forward ejection seat and part of his helmet was worn away by the runway. He remained trapped in the aircraft until a crane was used to lift the aircraft but received no life threatening injuries. A Civilian crash crew member received a gallantry award I believe for staying with the Navigator still strapped into the live seat and surrounded by a fuel spillage, until he was able to crawl inside and cut the restraint straps. Peter Bennet survived but received severe injuries from the ground impact, and I believe never flew fast jets again as he was medically down graded. A real pity as he was a qualified test pilot with over the 1,000 hours on Harriers." in email 9th November 2001 |
