  Jimís father saw duty as a Marine Corps radar operator in Korea, on an F3D SkyKnight.  On August 15, 1952, off the coast of Korea, his plane went down, and his remains were never recovered. (Posthumously, his father was promoted to First Lieutenant). Cause of the crash to this day is still unknown.  Jimís father also saw duty during the waning days of World War II as a radar operator in the Marines on an F7F Tiger Cat.

  In November/December 1955, the 36th received and began to operate the SC-54 Rescuemaster aircraft. On 21 Dec 55, a 36th C-54 flew the first mission by a C-54 in the Far East, searching for a Marine F3D Skyknight based at Atsugi Naval Air Station, Japan.
